I am so excited to be teaching your child this year! I love kindergarteners' curiosity, adaptability, sincerity, and intensity. They constantly surprise me with their intelligence and wit as we spend the year together.
A little bit about my family and me...
I graduated from Georgia Southern University in 1990 (Bachelors) and again in 1992 (Masters) but I began teaching in public school as a graduate student in 1990 as part of a foreign language pilot program sponsored by the State of Georgia and Georgia Southern. I have degrees in Spanish, psychology and a Master of Education. This will be my 12th year at John Milledge.
Since 1990 I have taught Spanish in elementary schools (in Statesboro, Swainsboro and at John Milledge). In the past 13 years I have also taught preschool, prekindergarten and kindergarten as well as other grade levels, but my heart has found its place in kindergarten. This year will be our first year with full day kindergarten and I cannot wait to get started!
This year I will also be the Local Coordinator for China Project Hope which is an international student study program that seeks to place Chinese students with American families for a year of study in an American school. JMA has been participating in the international student program for four years with great success.
I have been married to my college sweetheart, Eddie, for 24 years and we have 2 daughters--Brittany (JMA class of 2014), who is beginning her third year of college, and Erin (JMA class of 2017) who will begin her freshman year in college. We also have had the blessing of hosting an exchange student from China-Doris (JMA class of 2016)-who is beginning her second year at USC Fullerton. She is still very much a part of our family and we miss her very much. We also have three rescue fur-babies: Mango, our huge, crazy cat, Jack, our sweet basset mix, and our newest baby-Johnny-an adorable chiweenie.
I love reading, dark chocolate, green tea, good food, a good movie (but not a sad one), singing in my church choir and last but certainly not least my Savior, Jesus Christ.
I look forward to getting to know your family as we partner to help your child succeed this year.
